Everyone’s favourite reverb-loving singer has just released a self-directed new video to accompany Genesis, one of the finest works from her latest LP Visions. And although I’m not normally in the business of simply re-blogging other people’s writing, I don’t think I could describe the video any better than Pitchfork’s Carrie Battan:

It bears no shortage of things to gawk at. Claire holding a python in the back of a livery cab! Claire wearing a fitted cap that says “PUSSY” across it! Sword fighting in the desert! Crawling around in the the woods and strutting down the streets of L.A. with a cast of characters ripped straight out of “Mortal Kombat”! Grimes, you’ve officially out-fucking-Grimes’d yourself.

One of the most common questions over the years has been what is the difference between Richie Hawtin and Plastikman. My most common answer is that Richie Hawtin is, or has become, the extrovert on stage, playing, performing, and partying with/for the audience, while Plastikman has remained connected to my more introverted side. A side that feels more comfortable locked away with my machine or hiding behind a curtain of technology, creating my own unique and personal take on electronic music. For this podcast, I decided to experiment with the idea of how one of my personas would interpret the other: What would happen if Hawtin met Plastikman, or visa versa. So here, you will find a reinterpretation of a live Hawtin DJ set recorded at the Bermuda festival on November 6, 2010. Cut up, slowed down, shifted, and time-displaced to take the feel and experience of Hawtin into the realm of Plastikman.

Future Music Festival stage lineups revealed →

And quite unfortunately it looks as if my worst fears may be realised: a Chemical Brothers/Plastikman clash. Fingers crossed the lineup order doesn’t completely reflect the times… Also, there are nine stages at this thing. That’s really a bit much, and guaranteed to cause some clashes.

In the mean time, The Presets recently announced that they’re debuting a completely new stage set-up at the festival, designed by the team behind the Daft Punk Alive pyramid. And since this is their first show after being holed up in the studio for the last year and a half, they’re going to be debuting a lot of tracks from their upcoming third album. As you can see below, their last tour was nothing short of awesome, so I can’t wait to see their new show. Here’s hoping the timetable is awesome and clash-free…

And we were getting excited about the Future Music 2011 lineup here in Australia. I don’t think that even compares to this. Damnit US, ruining my life with your incredible festivals. If anyone suddenly wins the lottery and wants to get me a Christmas present I’ll remember forever, you could always get me a couple of tickets and flights?
